Alicia Cánovas Verdú
- Model Maker
I am a Spanish model maker currently based in the UK. Since I can remember I've been passionate about handicrafts and art. After graduating in Fine Arts in 2012, I decided to pursue a career in stop-motion animation. My studies in Spain and Italy allowed me to deepen my knowledge in the three main fields of traditional art: drawing, painting and sculpting. Soon I discovered how helpful that was when I first started working in the film industry. In addition, after a couple of years working as a professional model maker, I took a stop-motion animation course. Being in the shoes of an animator made me rediscover my job as a model maker, as it provided me with a much better understanding of the function of the puppets, props and sets I made.
During the last 7 years I have worked in a number of stop-motion productions in different studios like Mackinnon and Saunders, NFTS, Dadomani, Clay Animation, among others. I have learned to adapt to the needs of each particular production, workflow and team I have been part of. I am enthusiastic and passionate about my job and I feel grateful to be in the magical world of stop-motion animation. Nonetheless, I still have a lot to learn and I am eager to face new challenges. I would love to improve my skills and keep working along with passionate artists from many different backgrounds in forthcoming projects.
